Meet Our Patients

Trauma from an abusive relationship followed Tom from California to Seattle. After two suicide attempts, Mark came to Country Doctor. Working with his health care provider and a behavioral health counselor over several months, Mark successfully fought his demons and was even able to get his hypertension under control. "My counselor literally saved my life," tells Mark.

Angela, age 3, accompanied by her frightened young mother, arrived at Country Doctor, very dehydrated, and ill. Speaking no English, they were new to Seattle; and  had no car.  A medical interpreter acted on Angela's behalf from the moment she walked through the door and didn't leave the family's side until Angela and her mother were in a cab (paid by scrip) on their way to Children's Hospital. Her family continues to be treated at Country Doctor. Angela's mother's parting words that first visit were "Gracias! Gracias! a Todos!" (Thank you, thank you to all of you!).

When Kari became pregnant, she says, "We didn't know how we could afford having a baby. I had to quit my job as a CNA because I could no longer lift patients and my husband was in college. We had very little money."  Country Doctor's Maternity Support Services Team enrolled Kari in a health insurance plan, provided nutrition counseling and helped her establish a relationship with the provider who delivered her baby.

Kari and her family relocated to Houston.  "Even though we'll now have private insurance, I'm hoping there's a community health center in Houston."
